Update on Annie
Annie has been through her first heartworm treatment. She is doing really well, not complaining too loudly about the extra time in the crate. We spend as much time on the couch resting as we can. I don't want her to think I have abandoned her. She goes back on the 6th of May for the second, and hopefully final treatment. I am encouraged by how well she has done thus far, and hopefully by June we can start getting her back to normal.
My eldest child brought her new puppy by today, Annie responded really well. She usually wants to eat dogs she doesn't know. But "Vader", whose name will probably change to "Mater" because of grand #3, is small and non-threatening. Puppy tried to bark at Annie, too cute! I was so busy playing with puppy, I forgot about my camera.

Moving on up!
I teach two year olds. When they turn 2 1/2 they move into the next class up. Today two of my children moved up, and two more moved into my room. I was excited about one moving in, the other worried me a bit. No worry necessary! I had never heard him talk before, only whine...alot! But, oh my, he can talk...well! This week we are learning about snow and ice. We made snowmen out of three paper circles. Shapes, color, counting, order, size, location...covered. :) They really seemed to like gluing the circles down. The snowflake stickers were definitely a hit! Tomorrow I am bringing my ice shaver...we are gonna play in the snow!!! Here in Alabama, snow is never a sure thing. And if the weathermen dare mention the "S" word....milk, bread, and toilet paper fly off the shelves! LOL However, this week, in the two year old's room, we will have snow, and enjoy it!
Have a beautiful day!

Happy New Year!
Today did not start out wonderfully. My upstairs bathtub drain is leaking into the downstairs bathroom. A funny side is that the drip is is landing in the cat's litter box. Aside from that drama, we brought in the new year quietly, just the way I like it. I spent the evening on the couch with my youngest granddaughter and our latest canine addition, mostly listening to football. We watched the Rose Parade this morning. My faith in parades restored. I did not enjoy the Thanksgiving Day parade that Macy's put on. Rose Parade much better with the focus on floats, marching bands, and history. Will be watching the Rose Bowl later, not sure who I will be rooting for. I am waiting patiently for the BCS Championship game....ROLL TIDE!
I have been spending way too much time on pinterest lately. But, I am intrigued by all the "make your own" cleaning items. I will be trying a "make your own" laundry detergent. I hope it works the way the claims say it does! I have most of the ingredients, just not in the proper quantities. I have also used so many of the kids craft ideas at the daycare. My two year-olds have enjoyed them so much. I made a felt Christmas tree, with the felt ornaments for them to play with. Lasted less than 24 hours on the wall. I do have seven, yes 7, VERY active two year olds though. So, maybe, that was a long time?
I have made a few "resolutions" for 2013.
1. Learn to juggle
2. Learn 12 new songs on piano, must include at least one David Nevue song
3. Gatlinburg often
4. More weekend day trips with Hubby
5. Continue counting grace
6. Stress less, laugh more (especially where leaks are concerned)
7. Make cookies more often
8. Use my china, all the time!
9. Learn and use the word "no"
10. Throw/give away stuff I will never use (hard one!)
11. Hug my kids, who are all grown, more
I am sure I will think of more things I would like to accomplish this year. I always do.
I hope you have a blessed and joyful New Year,
Melissa

New Year Resolution Putter-Offer
I did not make the skirt to match the cast, but it works. So many plans for the New Year, put on hold by one very small patch of ice and too tall shoes. Friday the 13th, usually a wonderful day for me, I slipped on ice in my shape-up shoes. Ankle broken in three places, surgery, 1 plate, 10 pins, no putting weight on it for at least 6 weeks...UGH! The funniest thing about the day must have been my "crab-walk" back to the house, climbing up the front porch stairs, and finally getting back into the house. I would love to see a video...well, maybe not. Friday the 13th ended very early that day. My last memory is the doctor saying he would have to reset the ankle, which sent me into a panic....thank God for medicines that make you forget. I remember nothing from about 10am that day until the 15th....mercy is sweet! Why yellow?, you may ask....I have decided to "make lemonade".

Happy New Year
Happy 2012! I hope we all have a wonderful year ahead of us. I will be trying to get this blog thing down. I have loads of ideas, but have always had problems with follow through. I have enjoyed so many of the blogs out there in bloggy-land! My favorites are A Holy Experience, Ann Voskamp's site. I found this site when I googled "how to get closer to God". A daily must read. The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond's site. I found her by looking at another blogger's favorites. I have cooked her "Perfect Pot Roast" (it is!), creamy mashed potatoes, and most recently her "Spicy Whiskey BBQ Sliders"...omg they were good! Craft Hope, in 2010 when my daughter introduced me to blogs, I always managed to catch this site to late to participate. This past year, I paid better attention. I was able to make and send for each project. Such a satisifying craft year! These are just three, I read way to many each day....but I love what everyone has to share! I am currently going through one of the text books I used with my children, "Writing for 100 days". I hope to become a better writer, and in turn a better blogger. I want to share some of my thoughts, craft ideas, and recipes I enjoy. And maybe a bit of the silliness life has to offer.
These birds, known as Turkey Buzzards, are nesting in the pines across the street this year. There are hundreds of them. I saw one in a bird show a couple of years ago. Very entertaining birds! When we first moved into this house we left a huge ball in the yard, several of the birds played with it until it finally popped...so funny!
Tomorrow, I will let you know how I like using this Christmas gift.

A simple woman's daybook
FOR TODAY
Outside my window...The sun is shining in a very clear blue sky
I am thinking...I should be working on my bible study for this week
I am thankful for...Jesus, family, friends
From the learning rooms...we learned that Jesus taught his disciples and us how to pray...Cubbies lesson
From the kitchen...all is silent with the exception of the coffee machine
I am wearing...my jammies and favorite slippers
I am creating...dresses for Africa out of pillowcases and NICU smocks from Everything Your Mama Made
I am going...to mail box of birthing kits for project 11 of Craft Hope
I am reading...One Thousand Gifts, by Ann Voskamp, for the 2nd time read about it
I am hoping...for a nap, as granddaughter #3 kept me awake last night
I am hearing...Rhianna, daughter of granddaughter #3 is dancing with the baby
Around the house...I have too much work to do to be as tired as I am
One of my favorite things...sewing with the ladies of my church, happening tonight!
A few plans for the rest of the week: get outside, prepare for Sunday school
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

A Day with the Promise of Tornados
The whole area I live in has been preparing for severe weather for a couple of days. The local weather man is on with their "wall to wall" coverage. They start this as soon as there is a tornado warning in the viewing area. They have been on about an hour. What do I do with the promise of tornados? Drink my coffee on the front porch, of course. I love the breezes that come with thunderstorms! I love the rain, the way it sounds, they way it smells! I keep windows open as long as possible, makes the whole house smell fresh! And of course, my wind chimes sound beautiful!

Happy (?) New Year
I started the new year sick. Literally got sick on the first! Am better, thankfully, but am now stuck inside because of 8.9 inches of snow! Snow in Alabama is not common, kids love it. I think it's pretty for about a day and a half, then I am ready for more normal 50 degree temps. I hope you think it's pretty too!

It's summer....it's hot! I am trying to enjoy each day and not spend so much time looking forward to fall. I have searched for things to do during the summer. I have been to concerts in the park...very nice. Hubby and I drove to Chattanooga for their outdoor market, and more importantly to walk down the "waterfall" stairs near the aquarium. :) Fun. I am making a summery dress to wear to afore mentioned concerts in park. I think today I will make the watermelon lemonade recipe in "Summer in the Country" from Gooseberry Patch with Bug. Watermelon and lemonade just scream "summer!" I have not been to the pool or lake yet...maybe this week? I do still yearn for the cool winds of fall, when I can open windows and doors all day....ah, well, until then....sunscreen here I come!

Another Friday at home
It's Friday I have learned alot in the last two weeks. One, I love my husband and am extremely glad I married him! Every husband should be like him! Two, I do NOT like working more than 20 hours outside the house...housework does not get done...imagine that. Three, I am not a fan of summers in the south...okay this one isn't a new lesson learned, just worth repeating. It's hot, and steamy here in Alabama! Not a good thing...looking forward to major thunderstorms bringing the cold Canadian winds of fall and winter. Lastly, humanity isn't really interested in maturity, selfless-ness, or common kindness. I know I am cynical, just saying. I do have hope though. I am trying to teach by example, my kids for the most part are learning. There are those who are trying to do good, I do see them.
